New Jersey Statewide Broadband Mapping Project
The New Jersey Bureau of Public Utilities (BPU), in accordance with the New Jersey Broadband Access Study Commission - established by the state of New Jersey Legislature No.850 on March 1, 2022 - has engaged Penfield, NY-based ECC Technologies, Inc. (ECC) to complete a comprehensive broadband focused project in the state of New Jersey.
The project includes a multiphase approach to understand the broadband environment in New Jersey; encompassing mapping, documentation, and analysis. The result will provide address-level data on broadband infrastructure, services, competition, availability, and adoption statewide. ECC is currently conducting a physical inventory of existing outside plant (OSP) broadband infrastructure for compilation into a geographic information system (GIS) database. Additionally, ECC has developed an interactive survey www.broadband-nj.com to identify broadband availability and adoption issues. This survey is open to all residents and businesses within the state.
ECC will conduct a detailed analysis of the data and compile it into a comprehensive statewide report, as well as regional reports. The reports will objectively reveal the current state of broadband and include GIS maps, service provider infrastructure analysis, identification of gaps for address serviceability and adoption issues; and recommendations for resolution. An interactive website for addressed-based provider coverage will be completed by the project's end. This groundbreaking project is projected to be substantially completed by mid-2023.
